Lucky Lily!!

Lily ended up having FOUR great applications for her. The first family she met was generous enough to let her have a trial with another family-- and that looks like a great fit for Lily. We will keep everyone posted on what will hopefully be Happily Ever After for this wonderful dog.

Two Week Report

Lily has come a long way in the last two weeks. She has gone from resting nearly all of the time to jumping the baby gate in the kitchen when she doesn't feel like hanging out with the puppies. She is stronger and more energetic each day, and still a very sweet (if independent!) girl. She loves taking walks (and eschews the backyard when a walk is a possibility!) and really loves laying on her large doggy pillow instead of resting in her crate (though she never cries or complains in her crate, just needs coaxing to get in). She is so good that we have allowed her to stay uncrated and on her pillow more than even the resident dogs... special VIP treatment for a special girl.

Here is what we know about Lily now:
  • She likes to find her own comfy spaces to rest
  • She is housebroken and crate trained
  • She is easy to walk on a leash
  • She has a BIG bark, but doesn't use it that often
  • She enjoys her food
  • She CAN jump a 3-foot fence and can also jump a 6-foot fence if she can launch off of something
  • She is good with kid, other dogs, & cats
  • She needs some coaxing to go out in the backyard or into the crate

Heartworm Treatment

Lily underwent treatment for heartworms on Thursday and spent that night in the hospital before returning to our foster home for bed-rest and the beginning of her 4-week recuperation time on Friday evening. She is clearly sore and tired at the moment, preferring to rest quietly in our bedroom most of the time, away from the people and pets in the rest of the house. She is on some pain medication and her back & side seem especially sore. Hopefully she will be feeling much better very soon!!

Heartworm Positive

This beautiful girl is a happy, friendly Aussie/Sheltie-type mix who we became acquainted with about a week ago, thanks to a rescuer from Greyhound Rescue Austin. Unfortunately, our rescue group learned soon after that she is heartworm positive (early stages). Our foster home will serve as Lily's first rehab home as she undergoes heartworm treatment over the next week. She should be as good as new when the treatment is completed!
